What to do if the hairline lifting on your hair system

Your hair system is attached and you're ready to start a new day. You're full of hair and can't wait to show it off in public. However, one of the worst things has happened. You notice that your hair system lifts off the scalp in the area in front of the hairline. Worse, it happens when you're out. You may not even have tape or liquid adhesive to reattach reconnect it and solve the problem!
This is a common problem for many people who wear toupees, especially those who have just worn toupees and wear them themselves. This blog will explore how to deal with the hairline lifting from men's toupees and how to prevent this from happening in the future.

Reasons the hairline lifts off a hair system

There are many reasons why your front hairline can lift off your hair system. One of them is the most obvious - you don't attach this area well.  Either your method of application was poor, or you don't use enough wig glue or wig tape. We've all seen those videos and pictures that show hair system wearers and their toupees falling off without them knowing. Although this is not the front hairline, a recent example is an Arsenal fan who became popular when the back of his toupee fell off while watching a game. He later revealed that he didn't use enough glue, which was never a good idea.
Never be stingy, always use the right amount of glue to avoid potential embarrassment. There are other reasons why your hairline can be raised, though:
Low quality hair systems
This seems to be an obvious answer, but the fact is that what you get is what you pay, especially when it comes to the hair system. It's tempting to choose a low-cost hair system, but there are many risks, such as poor knotting, poor hair quality, and the use of low-quality and cheap materials that won't stick to the scalp. Be sure to pay for higher quality and longer life toupees so you don't have to continue to spend money on changing toupees.
Oily skin
If you have naturally oily skin, this may be a problem because you need to keep your hairline stuck. Everyone's skin and scalp produce oil to maintain moisture and protect the skin. However, for some people, they produce more oil than normal. When the oil comes into contact with the adhesive of your hair system, it will naturally loosen the adhesive and may cause your toupee system to lift. Scalp protectors will certainly be helpful in this regard. We will explain this in detail when we discuss the methods to prevent hairline from lifting below.
Not giving your hair system enough time to cure
Generally speaking, it is recommended to wait at least 24 hours after installing the hair system before washing, wetting your hair, taking a shower or participating in any sports activities that may make you sweat. For some people, the waiting time is too long, which is understandable. However, if you don't give your hair system the right time to cure, you risk the hair system falling off. That's why people always advise you to plan the installation of your hair system in advance in case you need to take a bath, prepare for a big event, or the work week is about to begin.
Your scalp is not cleaned and prepped properly
Another reason your hairline may lift is that you don't clean or prepare your scalp properly. Just as important as the actual attachment is to ensure that the installation area is shaved, cleaned and ready to apply the hair system. Even if you use the best glue, or wait 24 hours for your adhesive to cure, it's superfluous if your scalp is not clean, dry and greasy. Fortunately, if you plan to reattaching the hair system, we have the following guidelines to help you achieve the final hair system bond:
How to repair the lifted hairline
If you are lucky to be at home or have some key materials on hand, you will be able to solve this problem in a few minutes. To repair a hairline that has lifted, it first depends on the type of adhesive you use - tape or liquid adhesive. If tape is used, simply lift the system to the temple, remove the tape, clean it with alcohol or oil-based adhesive solvent, and then reapply it. We recommend using solvents such as C-22 solvent, KP Pro solvent or lace release, but rubbing alcohol can also be used if not available.
When reattaching the hair system, make sure to tap the front of the hair system correctly to avoid a repeat happening. However, if the tape used is very viscous or leaves a large amount of residue, the system may also need to be cleaned. Or, if you haven't removed the hair system for a while, say, about three weeks, you need to clean the hair system. Note that an oil-based solvent such as C-22 solvent helps to remove residues faster, but because it is oil-based, if it is used too much carelessly, continuous cleaning and pulling may lead to more bulges on the back, resulting in the fall off of the whole hair system. In this case, in order to prevent this from happening, newcomers may be more inclined to use alcohol.
If you use glue or liquid adhesive, you need to remove the adhesive not only from the hair system, but also from the scalp. Clean the hair system and scalp with solvent, wait about 5 to 10 minutes until the hair is dry, and then apply glue and hair system. Well, if it's just your hairline area, you don't need to remove the entire hair system. Simply lift the affected area - usually from temple to temple - and wipe it with some adhesive remover or alcohol.

How to prevent your hairline from lifting in the future

If you remember the above reasons why your hairline can be lifted and follow the instructions, you should avoid this happening to you again. Still, there are other ways to prevent your hairline from lifting. One of them is to avoid spicy food. Unfortunately, if you're a person who likes spicy food, you need to eat less because it can cause sweating and heat on your scalp. When it comes to heat, try to avoid staying in the sun for too long. It has been recommended not to come into direct contact with the sun for too long, as it will fade your hair and damage your hair system. In addition, it can make you sweat, especially in more humid or tropical climates.
If your skin is oily, you can consider appropriate daily skin care. Nowadays, there are many more affordable skin care products, which can actually reduce the production of sebum (an oily substance produced in sebaceous glands and scalp) and keep the skin soft and oil-free. You can also consider wearing a scalp protector. Scalp protectors, such as Walkers Scalp Protector, are applied to the scalp before using adhesives or hair systems to help form a protective barrier against the entry of sweat, oil and other fluids. They are good for people with oily scalp or humid climate.
